It is amazing how much of a difference a little makeup can create. The difference between a day look and evening can be as different as night and day.
There are a few rules, though, that can help you tremendously when determining which look is right for the occasion.
Review these makeup looks and find one that is right for you.
Prom Makeup
You want your prom makeup to be a little more dramatic than you would wear during the day. An iridescent powder can be used to accent cheekbones and temples as well as the brow bone. You don't want to go too heavy with too much makeup, a deep brown or gray offer neutral color but lots of drama. Since prom is an evening event, use some contour to sculpt your facial features, but avoid hard lines. For additional information on prom makeup see the prom makeup page.
Party Makeup
Party makeup is festive, a step up from casual makeup. Of course a day party will have fewer dramatic undertones than an evening party, so take care that you use a lighter hand during the day. Also, the time of year plays a part in the colors that you use. Summer and Spring call for pastels and lighter colors, including browns and grays. Autumn and Winter require deeper tones such as burgundy, eggplant, taupe, chocolate and charcoal. For additional information on party makeup see the party makeup page.
Office Makeup
When it comes to makeup for the office, less is more. A sleek, polished look gives you a professional appearance. Avoid heavy eye makeup and dark lipstick, keep it simple and light. Sweep a neutral color like taupe over your lids and sweep a little vanilla color on the brow bone. Blend well. Use an eyeliner brush to smudge a little of the taupe color under the eye about three fourths from the outer corner. A gray liner along the upper lid, right at the lash line and a coat of mascara sets off the eyes. Use a natural blush and lip color to complete the look. For additional information on office makeup see the office makeup page.
Hollywood Makeup
One of the popular makeup looks is the hollywood look. For the sultry, smoky look of a Hollywood starlet, start with foundation to even your complexion and cover any blemishes. Fluff a coat of loose powder to set the foundation. Rice powder give a flawless look. For the smoky eyes of a movie star, select a medium gray shadow and sweep it over the lid and crease. A lighter shade such as silver or vanilla should go just under the brow bone and a dab in the inner corner of the eye. With an eyeliner brush, smudge a deep gray shadow along the upper and lower lash lines, blending up into the lid. Line with a charcoal pencil, just at the lash line and use lots of mascara.
You can even add false lashes for a super dramatic look. Contour your face under the cheekbones and along the bridge of the nose and blend with powder. Brush a plum blush along the cheekbone and dust an iridescent powder above it. Finish your look with a red or plum lip stick, but don't go darker than your eye makeup - you want your eyes to be the focus of your look. For additional information on hollywood makeup see the hollywood makeup page. For even more tips see the celebrity makeup page.
Cheerleader Makeup
As a cheerleader you are very active and you need makeup that won't get sweat away. Some of the new mineral makeup formulations provide great coverage and are virtually sweat proof. Keep the look light and simple, a medium shade smudged along the upper lid and a light color brushed under the brow bone along with a good coat of waterproof mascara play up your eyes. Dust a neutral blush on the apples of your cheeks and follow with a neutral color lip balm. For additional information on cheerleader makeup see the cheerleader makeup page.
Casual Makeup
One of the other makeup looks is casual makeup is great for everyday wear, but can be taken to a hot evening look with just a few tweaks. Start with a little loose powder or mineral makeup and cover any blemishes using an eyeliner brush to apply your concealer. Line your upper lids with a brown pencil and smudge into lid. Sweep a medium to light color along lids and a slightly deeper color in the crease.
Highlight the brow bone with a vanilla and apply a coat of mascara. Don't have too heavy a hand, you want to keep it light and natural. Apply a natural blush to the apple of your cheeks. Choose a shade that is natural and will give you a healthy glow. Finish the look with a tinted lip balm. For additional information on casual makeup see the casual makeup page.
