Makeup Tools

There are many makeup tools available for your use. Learn about the many different types and uses here. Every little girl plays dress up and play makeup is always a part of the game. Unless, of course, they get into mommy’s makeup. Teaching your daughter how to apply makeup when they are older should include teaching them how to use the tools available to them.

Brushes, puffs, mascara wands…all of these should be handled properly so that the look one gets is natural and enhancing. Let’s take a look at some of the tools out on the market to accomplish that perfect look.

The most common tool used for applying makeup is the brush. Brushes can be purchased in multiple mediums, from sable hair to synthetic. Regardless of the material used, a good makeup brush will apply the makeup seamlessly and smoothly. It will not cause the makeup to clump, nor will it shed or scratch your skin.

Brushes come in a variety of sizes, from small, fine pointed ones that are perfect for applying lip liner and lipstick to large, full brushes used for blush. There are even brushes out there specifically used for eye shadow and smudging to give your eyes a smoky look. Many beauty stores carry professional grade brushes and they can be purchased separately or in their own carrying cases.

Brushes aren’t the only makeup tool a person may need to complete the look they are going for. If a person is looking for more volume for their eyelashes, they may want to consider using an eyelash curler. These devices curl the eyelashes upwards by squeezing them into the right shape prior to applying mascara. They can be made of metal or plastic and both accomplish the same results.

A good set of tweezers is also a recommended item for your makeup case. These are perfect for pulling the most haywire of hairs in your eyebrows, on your chin or anywhere else that you may need to pull them.

Sponges and wedges are used to apply your foundation. You never want to apply foundation with your fingers because the oils and dirt in your fingers can not only mar the smooth and flawless look of your foundation, but also cause blemishes later when you take your makeup off. These small tools will help you make sure that you do not apply too much foundation and will even the makeup out evenly and seamlessly. When applying foundation, remember to make sure you use a color that matches your skin as closely as possible so that you do not look like you are wearing a mask.

There are other makeup tools that you should have in your kit that do not directly correlate with applying the makeup but are helpful in their own right. Always make sure you have a good makeup sharpener or two in your kit. If you use a pencil eyeliner or lip liner, you need to be able to have a sharp point for application. Have a variety of small storage bottles as well.

There may be times when you wish to carry some moisturizer or make-up remover with you. These small bottles will keep you from having to carry the bigger bottle around. A cotton puff for applying powder is a must have, especially if you are applying a clear powder with sparkles. The puff will keep you from applying too much and from contaminating your other brushes. Cotton swabs are handy for touching up any smudged eyeliner or mascara.

Having a makeup kit that is stocked with some of these basic tools will help you perfect a natural look that enhances and does not detract from your beauty. Always remember to use your brushes for what you originally intended them for and not for other makeup. Never loan your makeup or tools out to someone else to avoid contamination. And most of all, wear colors that flatter your skin and hair colors for the most beautiful you.
